Leap day: the return of blogging

Why yes, I did neglect my blog for an entire month.  Thanks for asking.

And now that I'm back, it's not even by my own inspiration.  Erika tagged me with a blog survey so I thought I'd fill it out.  She followed all the rules, but I will not.  Mostly because almost all the bloggers I actually know in person have already done this or been tagged.  Anyway, here are the rules, followed by my semi-participation.

Rules For Bloggers: (you must repost these)

1. Post these rules.

2. You must post 11 random things about yourself.

3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post.

4. Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.

5. Go to their blog and tell them that you’ve tagged them.

6. No stuff in the tagging section about ‘you are tagged if you are reading this.’ blah blah blah, you legitimately have to tag 11 people!

11 Random things about myself:

1.  I am a picky eater.  I think most picky kids grow out of their picky-ness.  I did not.  The foods I do not like include broccoli, corn, beans (except green beans), any kind of melon, coconut, all chinese food, peppers, all nuts except peanuts, and caramel.  When I proofread that list, I literally gagged.

2. When I look at pictures of myself from high school I wonder how on earth I thought I was fat.  I would love to be back at my high school weight once again.  I would feel very skinny.  My current goal weight is 10 lbs higher than that.

3. I cannot stand for the volume on a tv or stereo to be left on a prime number.  Evens are great, 5s are ok.  I will get up and take the remote from you to change it from a prime number if I have to.  Don't test me.

4. I have a strange ability to remember numbers.  I know numerous phone numbers from my childhood as well as my dad's social security number, my mom's driver's license number, and all of my middle school locker combinations.  On rare occasions, this quirk actually comes in handy.

5. I slept with at least one stuffed animal every night of my life until I got married.

6. One of my life goals is to visit all 50 states.  So far I've been to about 30.

7. I sang in a children's choir for 8 years.  Being a part of that organization affected my life in more ways than I could ever describe.  Not only was I a part of a world class organization where I was trained to sing, but I was given the opportunity to travel the world, make friends who were very different than most of my other friends, learn how to see beyond myself, and develop a sense of integrity in the midst of my adolescence.  I am confident that no experience in my life will ever compare.

8. I get hooked on a tv show on Netflix and watch it with vigor until I have seen every episode.  Then I find another show and repeat.  This drives Jonathon a little bit crazy sometimes.

9. I grew up going to a church with over 3,000 people.  We currently go to a church of about 100.  I truly believe that God had a hand in both of those things, and that I have learned a lot from experiencing these extremes.

10. A couple of weeks ago I read the Hunger Games trilogy in 6 days.  I took 2 of those days off in the middle.  They were really good books.  They were also my first reads on the Kindle Fire that I got for Christmas.

11. I do not care one bit about eating organic food.  I have yet to be convinced that it's worth the extra expense and effort.  Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person I know who feels this way.  Then I wonder how on earth I ended up in the circles that I'm in.  I'm like a cloth-diapering, natural-birthing poser.

My answers to Erika's questions:

1. How many pairs of shoes do YOU own? (I need to know if I'm normal)
24.  Which sounds like a lot to me, but compared to the other answers I've seen to this, I'm feeling pretty conservative.  I also made a sizable donation to Goodwill last month.

2. If you had to have one type of plastic surgery done (and it were free), what would you pick?
Tummy tuck.  But only after I know I'm not having any more babies.

3. If you could have one exotic animal for a pet, what would you choose?
Some type of monkey.  They're so cute but could also be trained to be totally helpful around the house.  Monkeys can learn to fold laundry, right?

4. What was your (first, most memorable, lamest, you pick) AOL Instant Messenger screen name? When did you stop using AIM (or DID YOU)?
My first one was mollya1230.  It would have been my only one, but I broke up with a guy who got creepy and started stalking me and all my friends via AIM.  Then I changed it to ugamac1230.  Bet you can't guess my birthday.
I quit using it circa 2004 - when it got uncool, I moved out of the dorm, and facebook came out.

5. If you had to move to another country tomorrow, which country would it be?
England - language barriers are too stressful for me.  I'm also opposed to weather that is too hot.  Or too cold.  Basically, that would be the least high-maintenance other country I could think of.  I think I'll just stay here.

6. If you had to enter the Witness Protection Program and get a new identity, what would you choose as your new name?
Something really normal, like Emily Miller (ha!  Want to trade, Em?) or Ashley Jones.  When I was little I was totally jealous of people with common names.

7. Do you believe aliens could (or do) exist?
Um, no.  Just no.

8. What's your favorite book?
I like books a lot, but I am terrible at choosing favorites.  If we're going by books that I've read more than once and would be happy to read again, I'd have to say either Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers or the Harry Potter series.  I would happily read those every year.

9. If you could be on a reality show, which one would you choose? (All are fair game: trashy ones (Temptation Island?? Haha), contest ones (Survivor, The Apprentice), as well as stuff like House Hunters)
The Amazing Race.  I love to travel and I love the show.  I would also love to win a million dollars.  I have decided that my best potential race-running mate would be my brother. I think we would stress each other out less than J and I would in tense situations, plus he's incredibly smart and practical.  But they would likely get footage of some good arguments out of us anyway. Which I'm convinced is one of their top priorities when choosing contestants.  What do you say, G?

10. If you had to live in another era, which one would you want to live in?
My hubby would love to live in the colonial era.  He talks about it often.  But I am a fan of my modern conveniences, so I'm thinking maybe like the 1950s or 60s?  Is that far enough back to be considered a different era?  Because I'd really like to keep electricity and indoor plumbing, thankyouverymuch.

11. If you were going to invite me over for dinner, what would you serve?
Probably garlic bread, since we eat that every night anyway (Apologies to everyone who's not Erika.  That is a bit of an inside joke). Um...we have you guys over for dinner fairly often anyway, so you already know what we serve.  Nothing fancy.  Probably homemade pizza or some type of casserole that makes a lot of food.  I might try harder for other guests, but for friends close enough to not even be considered guests I focus way more on the company than on the food.   You know you qualify if you come in through the garage instead of using the front door.  That's the true test of friendship around these parts.

Like I said, I'm not tagging anyone, so I'm not adding my own questions.  But if you (like me) are short on blog topics lately, feel free to join in and just answer Erika's.

Happy Leap Day!

Nice! I think you need to work on your alias, though. You could use a LITTLE creativity on the first name or something, right??
